Project Codes

Who this is for: designers who want a short, memorable identifier on a project that shows up in document numbers.

What a project code is

A 4-character code on every project — typically your initials for the project or a client tag. Examples: ACME, LR24, WB01. Case-insensitive on save; rendered uppercase.

Where to set it

• On project create — the Project Information card has a Project Code field. Optional. Leave empty if you don't want one.

• On existing projects — Project → Edit → Project Information. Save flows down to any docs created after the change.

What it changes on its own

Setting the code does nothing until you turn on the doc-numbering toggle (next article). On its own, it's just a label visible on the Project card and in the projects list — useful for quick scanning.

Rules

• 4 characters max. Letters and digits only.

• No two projects in your studio can share a code.

• The same code can repeat across companies — codes are scoped per studio.

Common questions

• "Can I change a project code after I've created docs?" — yes, but existing document numbers don't auto-update. They keep the code that was in effect when they were created.

• "Can I leave it blank?" — yes. Without a code, document numbers fall back to the studio-wide pattern (e.g. EST-0001).
